Crisis
Leadership: Lessons from the Frontlines was a learning event held at
CCL on March 13-15, 2007 to glean lessons about crisis leadership using
Hurricane Katrina as the focal point. The forum brought together
"frontline" leaders from Hurricane Katrina and experts in public
health, terrorism, disaster-related crises, and leadership. The
conversation yielded a number of insights about leadership and crisis.
Download the Forum report: Stepping into the Void
When crises such as Katrina overwhelm the capacity of formal systems
and structures, new leadership systems take shape and emergent leaders
step into the void, playing critical and improvised roles in rescue and
rebuilding efforts. The forum indicates that leadership in mega-crises
requires a systemic response that extends beyond the leadership
capabilities of any individual or single organization.
